NORTEK becomes new member of Ocean Autonomy Cluster
NORTEK is now a member of both Ocean Autonomy Cluster and NORDSEC – Nordic Defence and Security Cluster, reinforcing its commitment to collaboration across the civil and defence marine technology sectors.
NORTEK delivers high-performance DVLs and integrated navigation systems for demanding marine operations, including defence applications. Designed and manufactured in Norway, the systems support platforms operating from littoral waters to the deep ocean.
The company’s DVL portfolio supports AUVs, ROVs, USVs and diver navigation systems, integrating seamlessly with inertial navigation systems (INS) to minimise drift and ensure reliable positioning in GNSS-restricted and challenging environments underwater. The DVL333 Surface, featuring a concave-head design, enables GNSS-resilient navigation for surface vessels, a capability of increasing relevance in modern defence operations.

Expanding in the defence domain
– We aim to expand further into the defence sector. Norway has a strong marine technology industry, and through NORDSEC, alongside our membership in Ocean Autonomy Cluster, we can collaborate even more closely with Nordic defence companies where we are already active, says Athavan Mahendran, Senior Sales Engineer Navigation at Nortek
In addition to delivering advanced navigation sensors, NORTEK works closely with customers to analyse mission requirements, system integration challenges and acoustic conditions to define the most suitable navigation solution.
With an office in Trondheim, NORTEK sees clear advantages in joining two clusters based in the same city.
– Being co-located makes it easier to participate actively and contribute to the network. Joining both clusters strengthens an ecosystem we are already part of through our customers and partners, Mahendran concludes.
