"articleBody" : "In the next decade, game-changing innovations in the maritime industry will make mobility easier, leaner, and greener. Combining Evoy’s electric motor systems with autonomous navigation technology from Zeabuz will have a huge positive impact on boating, from ferries and workboats all the way to leisure boats. Imagine you're taking your boat for a long summer holiday. You board in your home port in Oslo, Norway. The boat’s running, but it’s silent and smooth. You fall asleep listening to the ocean. When you awake the next morning, you’ve arrived at Sweden’s idyllic Koster Islands. This scenario is possible when you combine electric boating and autonomy. As all maritime sectors move toward a decarbonized future, autonomous electric boats promise an all-encompassing, optimized solution. Evoy is the world marketleader in high-output electric motor systems that fit diverse commercial and recreational boats. Zeabuz is a world-leading provider of autonomous navigation technology, and has launched the world’s first emission-free, autonomous passenger ferry. With overlapping value propositions for boats ranging from ferry transport vessels to workboats, the potential from this collaboration between two Norwegian Blue Economy pioneers is immeasurable. Leif Stavøstrand, CEO and founder, Evoy ‘We see a tremendous opportunity in this partnership with Zeabuz. The future requires betting on electric vessels and AI now,’ says Evoy CEO and founder, Leif Stavøstrand. ‘Self-driving electric boats deliver more flexible, energy- and costeffective, and sustainable solutions across the board.’ Autonomy and electrification in the marine industry perpetuate a ‘virtuous circle.’ Although decarbonization is an expensive proposition for many commercial boat operators, these two future-proof forces optimize efficiency in operations to deliver financial and environmental value. Electric motor systems have a high ROI, reducing fuel costs dramatically. AI and technology and autonomy solutions are set to change the face of waterborne mobility and shipping forever, enabling a new level of safe, energy efficient, sustainable, crew-optimized operations. Erik Dyrkoren, CEO Zeabuz AI enables a leaner crew by streamlining manual, repetitive tasks, reducing crew size, and enabling personnel to better focus on higher-level operations with reduced risk. Both autonomy and electrification also give operators a better understanding of vessel and fleet health, including predictive maintenance, that supports the increase in market interest for safety and cost mitigation throughout a vessel’s life. ‘With electric, self-driving capabilities and advanced digital security, the collaboration with Evoy sets the stage for key advancements in the maritime industry,’ says Erik Dyrkoren, Zeabuz CEO. ‘Both of our technologies fit many use cases.’ In a gesture of good faith, the two Norway-based companies have already signed an MOU. The next part of the voyage includes developing a test vessel that incorporates Zeabuz AI technology and an Evoy electric motor system. The companies plan to launch their test boat on the fjords in summer 2024 to researchthe fundamentals of technical interoperability, followed by showcasing how it works to the market. ‘Norway has a strong ecosystem of maritime high-tech companies getting ready for commercialization outside of Norway. Both Zeabuz and Evoy are a part of it,’ says Dyrkoren. ‘Now we’re doing it together, and I think it’s awesome.’ While the early adopters of electric AI boating thus far are predominantly urban passenger ferries in cities including Trondheim, Stockholm, London, and Paris, it’s only the beginning. Implementing electric AI systems is a gradual process according to the International Maritime Organization. It’s rolled out in steps starting with a crewed ship with automated processes and decision support, followed by an autonomous vessel with seafarers on board. The final phase is a fully autonomous vessel, remotely supervised from shore. ‘When commuter and harbor vessels normalize automated zero-emission operations, we expect the technology to trickle down to many more vessels and boats. One day, in the not-too-distant future, we will have self-driving taxi boats and recreational boats that go from A-to-B even at high speeds,’ says Stavøstrand. ‘It’s a dream come true, and it will revolutionize the way we travel — opening the waterways to decongest large metropolises sustainably!’ More about EVOY The shift to electric boating is happening now, powered by EVOY. EVOY designs, develops, and delivers powerful 100% electric inboard and outboard motor systems for boats between 20 and 50 ft, bringing the superiority of electric boating into uncharted commercial and leisure markets with ground-breakingtechnology. As the industry forerunner and innovator of turnkey electric motor systems, Evoy has supplied technology to some of the world’s most recognized brands such as Axopar Boats, Nimbus, Hydrolift, Goldfish, SAY Carbon Yachts, andmore. With a mission to reduce boating emissions without compromising on power or ease of use, EVOY creates the irresistible boating experience. Made in Norway. More about Zeabuz Zeabuz is a leading provider of autonomous navigation solutions. With unique modularity, the Zeabuz autonomy platform allows for easy adaptation to fit customers in different segments' varying needs. Zeabuz also offers a comprehensive safety assurance process designed in partnership with DNV, including use of advanced simulators, that offers transparency to how our AI systems think to ensure that the autonomous operation can be trusted by all relevant stakeholders. Zeabuz is based on decades of spearheading research in maritime autonomy at NTNU and aims to be the most trusted maritime autonomy provider in the world. "articleBody" : "Future Innovations is now a partner in the entrepreneurial initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA), aiming to triple the value of the Norwegian space industry within ten years. Ocean Autonomy Cluster is run by one Future Innovations, one of Norway's largest innovation companies. This is a very exciting opportunity, and I'm glad we get to be a part of it, says FI's CEO, Bjørn Damhaug. The initiative collaborates with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Eirik S. Sivertsen, project manager for small satellites at NTNU, expresses enthusiasm about this opportunity. This is important for Norway and relates to national capabilities. National control over satellite data is significant for everything from monitoring human activity to managing the cod population. NTNU's interest in this is to conduct research and development and educate candidates for the industry. Therefore, it is strategically important for NTNU to take a position in this initiative, emphasizes Sivertsen. At NTNU's laboratory for small satellites, researcher Sivert Bakken showcases a satellite similar to HYPSO-1, NTNU's first research satellite launched into space in 2022. Using advanced camera technology, it can monitor algal blooms and pollution. The data is collected through an antenna on the roof of the Electro Building at Gløshaugen. Norway has a significant role in the space industry. We are at the forefront, and investing is natural to take this further, says Sivert Bakken. When we have control over satellite data, we can also control how larger images are pieced together. Norway manages large areas, especially maritime areas, where satellite data contributes to increasing the value of other data collection, he points out. Completing the Ocean Space Vertical For Future Innovations, the investment in space technology is a natural extension of their extensive activities related to the ocean. We are already leaders in ocean technology, and space technology will give us even more power in this area, where satellite data plays a crucial role. This includes everything from autonomy and communication to mapping and surveillance. Access to data, experts, and technology from world-leading environments through ESA will open enormous opportunities for innovation and creativity. This initiative will contribute to strengthening the innovation environment in connection with Nyhavna and along our coastal region, says Bjørn Damhaug. The ESA Business Incubator and our relation to ESA are important steps for us to complete the Ocean Space Vertical - from projects and services on the sea floor to the surface, and now in space. Autonomous solutions rely on satellite data for navigation, position, communication, and other needs. So this will be a welcoming service in our toolbox that we can provide for our members in Ocean Autonomy Cluster, says Frode Halvorsen, Cluster manager for Ocean Autonomy Cluster. This antenna on the roof of the Electro Building at NTNU Gløshaugen retrieves data from the research satellite HYPSO-1. Photo: Ingrid Skjøtskift/Future Innovations. Facts Kjeller Innovation and Future Industry and other partners will be part of the ESA Business Incubation Centre Norway 2.0 program in 2024. The incubator's goal is to triple the value of the Norwegian space industry within ten years (from 11 to 33 billion NOK) by assisting 40 new startups and creating 450 new high-tech jobs. Companies accepted into ESA BIC gain access to financial support, technical expertise, and resources and facilities from ESA. Why space technology? Satellites are essential for fundamental societal tasks, monitoring five billion points annually in Norway. This includes surveillance of floods, landslides, seas, shipping traffic, meteorology, water reservoirs, etc. Satellite data plays a crucial role in managing large maritime areas and the Arctic, where Norway has extensive interests. Space technology is a vital part of the observation pyramid; simultaneous monitoring of the same area at multiple levels (satellites, drones, autonomous boats, and underwater drones) provides more knowledge (e.g., about ocean currents, weather phenomena, emissions, and algal blooms). This can lay the foundation for an entirely new industry, value creation, and job opportunities. Space technology is relevant for climate monitoring, communication, intelligence, preparedness, military operations, agriculture, fisheries, and numerous other societal areas.",

The splash zone offshore is one of the most demanding, challenging, and dangerous environments to perform work and operations in. Safe and secure access is one of the major challenges in the splash zone. Oceantech has now demonstrated its new autonomous inspection robot. OceanTech's ANDWIS probe enhances crack detection and crack measurement during the inspection of weld seams. The method, which uses electricity and magnetism, is called eddy current NDT. The control of the probe is autonomous using a robot and 3D camera. The technology contributes to both reduced testing time, improved health, safety, and environment (HSE), and automated robot movements. The probe is highly accurate with several enhancements. The method also contributes to the extension of the lifespan of the installations being inspected. OceanTech has its headquarters with facilities for development, testing, and production at its Subsea Test Center in Nyhavna, Trondheim. These vehicles are tailored for agriculture, and the potential applications are only limited by our imagination. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset As part of the Croatia Norway Marine Technology Innovation Network - MATIN, a group of enthusiastic Croatians has visited the technology hub in Vanvikan. MATIN was established by the Digital innovation HUB Innovamare Croatia in collaboration with the Ocean Autonomy Cluster in Trøndelag. The first step of a larger partnership MATIN will strengthen the collaboration between ocean tech companies in Norway and Croatia, says Frode Halvorsen from Ocean Autonomy Cluster. This is the first step in what we hope will be a larger and longer partnership between Ocean Autonomy Cluster and Innovamare. So, in the current phase, we are looking into companies from both countries that have shown interest in collaboration and to create common projects, says Halvorsen. Adriana Paric, Jan Laszowski and Davor Vranković from the Croatian delegation visiting Maritime Robotics in Vanvikan. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset. Exploring collaborative possibilities The purpose of MATIN project is to enable companies from Croatia and Norway to cooperate and work on the development, testing, and validation of innovative marine technologies with the goal of increasing joint investments in the blue economy, developing common patents, and applied research, says Jan Laszowski. He is the project coordinator for Digital Innovation Hub Innovamare in Croatia. The purpose of the visit to Norway was for Croatian partners to visit Norwegian partners and to start exploring collaborative possibilities and learn from each other. The outcome of this visit was that the partners that were brought from Croatia got insight of different projects that Norwegian partners are working on, and trough one-on-one meetings with them (B2B) they were able to exchange more detailed information on their own individual work, as well as talk about possible cooperation on existing or future projects. The next step is to do the same with Norwegian partners in Croatia, where they will be able to meet new potential partners in cooperative projects from different sectors, Laszowski says. Innovamare and companies from Croatia have been visiting Trondheim, and companies have allready made connections. In April, Norwegian companies will go to Croatia, where they will look into concrete projects where their tecnology can provide solutions, Halvorsen says. "articleBody" : "Trondheim, a city with a rich technological legacy, is poised to establish Nyhavna as Norway's answer to Silicon Valley. A strategic initiative is now unveiled. Eighteen maritime stakeholders are coming together to establish the Strategic Forum for Nyhavna. The ambition is to develop a world-leading ocean technology community at Nyhavna. Trondheim has a historic opportunity to create Norway's Silicon Harbor on Nyhavna, a pivotal part of Trondheim's evolution as a technology capital. The strategic importance of Nyhavna cannot be overstated. It is not merely a harbor; it is a crucible of innovation, a convergence of established enterprises and startups, all dedicated to advancing maritime technology. The formation of the Strategic Forum for Nyhavna is a testament to the urgency of consolidating this vibrant ecosystem and elevating its visibility in both societal discourse and the developmental processes surrounding Nyhavna. From the opening of NYNU Nyhavna. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset The initiative stems from the desire to gather and promote the interests of marine technology, maritime industry, and related actors at Nyhavna. It is high time that the technology community associated with Nyhavna unites and highlights the ongoing developments, innovations, and value creation. This community needs a clear voice in societal discussions and the processes surrounding Nyhavna's development. The Strategic Forum for Nyhavna aims to secure the interests of ocean technology, maritime industry, and adjacent stakeholders at Nyhavna, working towards making it the world's leading area for ocean technology. From the opening of NTNU Nyhavna. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset Nyhavna boasts a robust ocean technology community with a mix of established companies and startups. This is something we need to build upon, says Frode Halvorsen of Ocean Autonomy Cluster. Ocean technology is crucial in the technology capital, and it requires access to quaysides and the fjord. Trondheimsfjorden, established as the world's first test area for autonomous vessels, he adds. The city council has been explicit in its commitment to facilitating business and industry at Nyhavna. This commitment is part of the rationale behind presenting a dedicated business program for the area, scheduled for consideration by the city council next year. The focus is on securing the natural place of ocean technology at Nyhavna. Since the adoption of the municipal plan in 2016, the presence of ocean technology companies has significantly increased, with many of them finding a home in Nyhavna. Here, they have access to quaysides and the fjord, essential for their continued development. Additionally, there is increased activity from NTNU, involving both students and researchers. The opening of NTNU Nyhavna this summer demonstrated the considerable interest in the innovation environment here. Background/Facts The Strategic Forum for Nyhavna comprises 18 key stakeholders. Its purpose is to safeguard the interests of ocean technology, maritime industry, and related stakeholders on Nyhavna, working towards establishing Nyhavna as the world's leading area for maritime technology. "articleBody" : "A new inter-European collaboration will accelerate the international venture of several Trondheim companies. The Croatian cluster DIH Innovamare and the Norwegian Ocean Autonomy Cluster (OAC), are behind the new network cooperation Croatia - Norway Marine Technology Innovation-network (MATIN). - Trøndelag has long been on the list of the most innovative regions in Europe, and the maritime technology environment in Trondheim has a unique position that gives us a lot of international attention. Several companies in our network hold the key to many of our major global challenges, explains Frode Halvorsen, cluster leader in the Ocean Autonomy Cluster. The EEA-funded collaborative project will look at three specific areas: Maritime transport, environmental monitoring, and mapping of bottom conditions in the sea. - Crew shortages, traffic congestion, climate emissions, and seabed damage from anchoring are challenges that can be solved with autonomous and smart systems. Halvorsen explains that technology can make data collection and operations at sea more efficient and scalable. Croatia has a strong international role as a European innovation district with good test facilities on the Adriatic Sea, and close cooperation with major key players in industry and business development. More companies will now have the opportunity to travel to Croatia to establish new partnerships and collaborations. One of these companies is Zeabuz from Trondheim. The technology company, which originates from the research environment at NTNU, has received a great deal of international attention for the launch of the world's first autonomous passenger ferry in Stockholm. Now, the company is also supplying autonomous systems to two industrial groups Yinson GreenTech's new buildings in Singapore, while constantly establishing new customer relationships. - Zeabuz is a leading supplier of maritime autonomy solutions but simultaneously completely depends on close cooperation with technology suppliers with whom we have to integrate our systems. A cluster collaboration like MATIN is a very good way to combine technical collaboration and commercial processes, says Erik Dyrkoren, CEO of Zeabuz.",

"articleBody" : "The maritime sector is facing significant staffing challenges and major technological changes. How can companies in mid-Norway win the recruitment competition in competition with the rest of the country? This was the topic during today's breakfast meeting under the auspices of the MIDAS capacity initiative. With low unemployment and great competition for newly graduated technologists, the workers of the future are in the driver's seat when choosing a job. Who are they, where are they going, and what will it take to win the battle to reach them? Recruitment reflects the local company structure. NTNU conducts a separate candidate survey every three years that maps, where graduated students go to work. In general, students from NTNU do very well in the job market; 90% of the respondents were at work six months after graduating. Oslo and Trøndelag are the only counties with a net positive increase in NTNU candidates. For Trøndelag, it is first and foremost in Trondheim that the most significant growth occurs, and medicine and schools within the public sector recruit the most candidates. This also reflects the business mix in Trondheim and Trøndelag, with a robust public sector versus the large consulting companies with head offices in Eastern Norway. At the same time, students from Oslo are over-represented in the Master of Technology - studies, the students and many seek to return to their home municipality after completing their education. See more about the candidate survey here. Everyone needs IT competence. An ongoing survey under the auspices of Fremtidens Industri provides some indicators of an unmet need for skills at companies in Mid-Norway. - There is generally little understanding of what critical systems entail and how IT security must be safeguarded in the future, explained Aida Refvik Angell, security advisor at Fremtidens Industri, during the breakfast meeting. She believes that many companies today underestimate IT security. At the same time, many have challenges with maintaining critical IT competence. Young workers demand more from employers, and flexibility and benefits have become crucial competitive advantages in the battle for the wisest minds. Read more about the survey here. Employers need to stand out. An IT company that has consciously worked with recruitment and culture building is Brilliant. As a large consultancy with a broad client portfolio, the employees are the most crucial resource for winning large contracts. Onboarding starts when the employment contract is signed - before the new employee has begun - with a gift on the door, invitations to social events, and company tours in anticipation of the first day of work. The employees have e-sports teams, sports teams, and opportunities to play games in the offices in their spare time, and social activities are also organized for employees' friends and family to include more people in the Brilliant culture. In addition, there are benefits such as a baby bonus, insurance, extra holiday days, and opportunities to buy shares in the company. A separate survival guide will help the employees orient themselves to the benefits and opportunities at Brilliant. Read more about Brilliant's survival guide here. Students apply for the cool jobs. The biggest driver for many technology students involved in their spare time is the inner motivation and ambition to get hands-on experience with maritime technology. This was told by Christoffer Strøm, leader of the student organization Vortex. Through sponsorship agreements and cooperation with companies, Vortex has secured several of its members' engagement, internships, and jobs with relevant companies. He got a job at the technology company Zeabuz. - Offer pizza and exciting tasks, encouraged Strøm during the breakfast meeting. Read more about Vortex here. Frode Halvorsen, cluster manager, Ocean Autonomy Cluster gives an introduction to Ocean Autonomy Cluster. Simon Lie from NTNU Bridge shares insights from the candidate survey. Aida Rafvik Angell on the importance of inhous IT competence. Robert David Olsen from Brilliant on the importance of a good on-boarding process for new employees. "articleBody" : "What's needed for Norwegian shipping companies to find it worthwhile to invest in environmentally friendly solutions and advanced technology? Maritime transport has a vital role in the green shift; More freight and passenger transport at sea contributes to reduced emissions, less traffic congestion on the road, and more efficient transportation. But when the regulations lag behind technological developments, the support schemes fail, and the business world has to bear the risks, the transition to a more sustainable transport sector is slow - and at the expense of Norwegian companies. We invited a broad panel to delve into the question; What will it take to reach the goal faster with the major restructuring the maritime sector faces? - Norway is at the forefront of maritime technology, but as a start-up company, we have to look internationally to scale up, said Erik Dyrkoren, CEO and co-founder of the OAC cluster member and technology company Zeabuz. This summer, the company launched the world's first commercial, self-driving passenger ferry in Stockholm. Such a venture seems more demanding in Norway. Capital flight and investor reluctance are challenging for maritime technology companies, and Dyrkoren warned that a too strong tax regime could limit the risk-taking ability of Norwegian investors. - We must use purchasing power, said Kirsti Leirtrø (AP) from the Stortinget Transport and Communications Committee, and pointed out that public procurement can be an essential driving force for technological development. But a lack of regulations and unclear framework conditions can make it challenging to navigate when developing a good transport offer, and close public-private cooperation becomes essential to ensure the best solutions. The shipping company Norled, the traffic company Kolumbus and the Norwegian Maritime Authority agreed. - The energy transformation we are in the middle of presents challenges for the maritime and energy sectors; they have to deal with the fact that overnight they have become one energy system, not one fossil and one electric as before. Partners in our and other projects develop world-leading solutions to the challenges of energy density, energy weight, energy availability, lack of infrastructure, etc. The most significant risk now is not the maturity of the technology. It is unclear political leadership, expressed Thomas Bjørdal, head of the renewables cluster RENERGY. - Executive authorities must ensure that the regulations are aligned with technology and that tenders, quotas, and licenses are effective tools, Bjørdal pointed out. The discussion will probably continue long after the last day at Arendalsuka. Erik Dyrkoren from Zeabuz on the challenges and opportunities of being a Norwegian maritime tech startup. Thomas Bjørdal from RENERGY calls for clear leadership in the green shift.",
