Les også saken på Norsk hos Maritimt Forum The Norwegian Maritime AI Centre has been granted the status of a national research centre for applied artificial intelligence (AI) in the maritime sector. Led by NTNU, the centre will develop technology and drive innovation for Norwegian maritime actors through increased use of AI. – The Norwegian maritime industry is among the world’s best, and we must quickly adopt new technologies to maintain our position. Artificial intelligence will revolutionize multiple sectors, including the highly competitive and rapidly changing maritime industries, says Marianne Sivertsen Næss, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy. A cross-sector collaboration The centre will receive 100 million NOK over five years and is a collaboration between industry, academia, public sector actors, and international partners. Its mission is to advance AI research and explore practical applications in the maritime sector. Frode Halvorsen, Cluster Leader of the Ocean Autonomy Cluster and Head of Testination. We’re pleased to welcome StrateSea Technology as a new member of the Ocean Autonomy Cluster. StrateSea Technology builds FeatureLab, a no-code AI platform for subsea intelligence that empowers users to build, train, and deploy their own detection and classification models, using their own data. The platform is fully sensor-agnostic, supporting side-scan sonar, synthetic aperture sonar and optical data across commercial and defense applications, with lidar, multibeam sonar, and other sensor data support on the roadmap. With a strong foundation in explainable AI and user-driven workflows, FeatureLab is evolving to support multi-sensor ISR operations across autonomous and crewed maritime platforms. Joining to collaborate – We’re joining the Ocean Autonomy Cluster to collaborate with forward-leaning organizations working at the intersection of autonomy, sensing, and decision support, says Victoria Price-Doucet, CEO and Co-Founder of StrateSea Technology. – We see OAC as a critical hub for advancing interoperable ocean technologies, and we’re excited to contribute to that mission while learning from others working across the North Atlantic region and beyond. CEO Victoria Price-Doucet and CTO Maurice Doucet in StrateSea Technology Building better subsea perception StrateSea brings deep expertise in hydrography, AI/ML, and user-centered product design. The company aims to contribute practical tools, strategic insight, and technical collaboration around subsea perception, edge deployment, and explainable autonomy, especially in areas like mine countermeasures, ISR, and infrastructure inspection. – We’re excited to engage with the OAC community to accelerate dual-use innovation, connect with technology partners and end users, and ensure our platform evolves to meet the needs of both commercial and defense domains. We’re looking forward to building relationships with autonomy developers, sensor manufacturers, researchers, and end-users to help shape the future of intelligent maritime systems. Highly relevant technology - We’re thrilled to welcome StrateSea as a new member,” says Frode Halvorsen, manager at Ocean Autonomy Cluster. - Their technology is highly relevant to several of our existing members, and we hope to initiate a joint project soon. This also reflects the strong collaboration between the U.S. and Norway that Ocean Autonomy Cluster is proud to be part of. StrateSea was introduced to Ocean Autonomy Cluster through Wav-C, a long-standing partner of the cluster, Halvorsen says. Expanding partnerships and global reach StrateSea has recently announced partnerships with Klein Marine Systems and Numurus, with several additional partnerships underway. Their software is currently being evaluated for use by key defense and hydrographic stakeholders in the US, Europe, and Australia.
