"articleBody" : "Together with Digital innovation HUB Innovamare in Croatia, Ocean Autonomy Cluster (OAC) have established the Croatia Norway Marine Technology Innovation network - MATIN. In November the Croatians was visiting Norway. First step on the programme was notable companies in the Norwegian marine innovation landscape, including OceanTech Innovation AS, Ocean Access, Blueye Robotics, Zeabuz, and NTNU's Sea Control Lab. There was also time for a refreshing cruise with the autonomus ferry milliAmpere2. Throughout this project we will facilitate collaborations between companies in Croatia and Norway, particularly in the development, testing, and validation of ocean technologies. Our goals include increasing joint investments in the blue economy, fostering common patents, and advancing applied research. This visit allows both teams to explore collaborative possibilities and learn from each other's experiences. Exciting developments in Vanvikan with AutoAgri, a company at the forefront of designing and manufacturing autonomous tractors. These vehicles are tailored for agriculture, and the potential applications are only limited by our imagination. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset As part of the Croatia Norway Marine Technology Innovation Network - MATIN, a group of enthusiastic Croatians has visited the technology hub in Vanvikan. MATIN was established by the Digital innovation HUB Innovamare Croatia in collaboration with the Ocean Autonomy Cluster in Trøndelag. The first step of a larger partnership MATIN will strengthen the collaboration between ocean tech companies in Norway and Croatia, says Frode Halvorsen from Ocean Autonomy Cluster. This is the first step in what we hope will be a larger and longer partnership between Ocean Autonomy Cluster and Innovamare. So, in the current phase, we are looking into companies from both countries that have shown interest in collaboration and to create common projects, says Halvorsen. Adriana Paric, Jan Laszowski and Davor Vranković from the Croatian delegation visiting Maritime Robotics in Vanvikan. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset. Exploring collaborative possibilities The purpose of MATIN project is to enable companies from Croatia and Norway to cooperate and work on the development, testing, and validation of innovative marine technologies with the goal of increasing joint investments in the blue economy, developing common patents, and applied research, says Jan Laszowski. He is the project coordinator for Digital Innovation Hub Innovamare in Croatia. The purpose of the visit to Norway was for Croatian partners to visit Norwegian partners and to start exploring collaborative possibilities and learn from each other. The outcome of this visit was that the partners that were brought from Croatia got insight of different projects that Norwegian partners are working on, and trough one-on-one meetings with them (B2B) they were able to exchange more detailed information on their own individual work, as well as talk about possible cooperation on existing or future projects. The next step is to do the same with Norwegian partners in Croatia, where they will be able to meet new potential partners in cooperative projects from different sectors, Laszowski says. Innovamare and companies from Croatia have been visiting Trondheim, and companies have allready made connections. In April, Norwegian companies will go to Croatia, where they will look into concrete projects where their tecnology can provide solutions, Halvorsen says. "articleBody" : "This year Ocean Autonomy Cluster has been responsible for the task given to the CDIO Academy Case Challenge. 3 groups of students from universities in Singapore, Vietnam, Finland, and the UK have been working on assignments for autonomous ships. And today, the three groups presented their solutions at NTNU. These solutions ranged from unmanned daughter vessels controlled by a manned mother vessel to uncrewed vessels as chargers for electric ships to unmanned sea drones that can be deployed from cargo ships to collect oil spills. This case challenge put students from different universities and disciplines into groups to solve real-life challenges and shows the importance of bringing together different backgrounds and disciplines when complex tasks should be solved. Ocean Autonomy Cluster has been involved in this work as a part of the MIDAS project, and we would like to bring experiences from this work into new student projects, especially those we will organize locally in the coming year. And yes, the students solved their tasks with great results, and we are wishing them all luck with their studies and work in the future. What is the CDIO Academy? The CDIO Academy is an opportunity for engineering students that are active at CDIO institutions to work on design-implement projects, team up with their peers from engineering programmes around the world across disciplines and cultures and learn from prominent leaders in engineering education. The CDIO Academy and Innovation Challenge focuses primarily on the engineering innovation aspects of the CDIO Concept: Conceiving, Designing, Implementing, and Operating systems in the enterprise, societal and environmental context — and the innovation process. What is the MIDAS-project? The MIDAS capacity initiative - 'humans in future maritime operations' - addresses the role of humans in connection with tasks at sea where autonomy and automation are given an ever-increasing place. The project comprises partners and representatives in technology, design, and business development from academia, the research environment, and business.",

"articleBody" : "Conferences, kickoffs, and annual meetings; It’s been a hectic and social week in the Ocean Autonomy Cluster post covid. It seems that the pace of innovation is turning up a few knots after this week. Trondheim Tech Port: We finally met again! After two years in the home office and digital meetings, even the country’s technology optimists were happy to meet physically again under Trondheim Tech Port. The program was packed with ocean space technology, health technology, and discussions about sustainability, entrepreneurship, and gender equality under the theme “bridging the gap”, introduced by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. The challenges of the world are becoming increasingly complex; Geopolitical unrest, energy crisis, climate change, and resource scarcity put great pressure on the pace of innovation and the ability to find new, sustainable solutions. Through the conference – and the expanded focus on the “Innovation District Trondheim Tech Port” – Trondheim marks international ambitions for the city’s research and innovation environment. See the full program here. MIDAS: The human X-factor in autonomy The capacity promise “Man in the sea operations of the future” (MIDAS) was kicked off this week. The research project, which has a total budget of NOK 36 million, is covered by eight NTNU institutes, three research centers, and three clusters that together represent over 150 member companies. Over six years, MIDAS will build a collaborative platform between R&D and regional business with a focus on the human role in meeting autonomous systems, good design for intuitive and user-friendly interfaces, and business expertise in immature markets. The main goal is to create trust between humans and machines and strengthen the competitiveness of regional technology companies. This week, work package leaders, partners, and clusters met for a kickoff and discussion about the important journey we will now start together. Singapore: A growing market Digitization and decarbonization are two important focus areas for Singapore’s maritime players, and these are also areas where Norway has significant solutions and technology to offer. The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and the Norwegian maritime clusters met this week digitally to explore areas of common interest and potential for cooperation. During the event, Norwegian stakeholders learned more about the many challenges and focus areas for Singapore’s maritime industry related to technological innovation and development. OAC Annual Meeting: Experiences, challenges and opportunities for the cluster further Ending a hectic week, the Ocean Autonomy Cluster was gathered for an annual meeting to reflect on what the cluster has achieved in the past year and what awaits in the coming year. Several large projects are being launched this spring, and both human factors in the design and flexible ferry solutions will take some focus in the coming year. In addition, the OAC wants to establish more meeting arenas, in addition to the annual Ocean Autonomy Conference in September. The annual meeting also received a presentation on regional freight flow analysis; an important backdrop for how future logistics solutions and ocean space operations will be developed in the future. Europe will be an even more important market for many of the cluster’s members in the years to come, and OAC is pleased to announce that this spring the cluster will have a dedicated EU adviser who will strengthen the export opportunities for Trøndelag’s maritime technology. Kristin Y. Pettersen looking to nature while making new tech. Is the puclic sector a turtle in the teck rase? Arianna Minoretti from The Norwegian Public Roads Administration suggests otherwise. Optoscale’s Sven J. Kolstø Frode Halvorsen from Ocean Autonomy Cluster Espen Barth Eide on the need to accelerate tech innovations. Astrid Svarva and Tomas Fiksdal on hydrogen hub port. Kristin Jordal, Sintef explains why climate emissions are so hard to communicate. Marie Lauvås wins young entrepreneurship prize. Karianne Tung, CEO of Trondheim Tech Port and Trondheims mayor, Rita Ottervik. Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre wasn’t able to come to Trondheim due to the Ukrainian crisis. He mentioned geopolitics as a new, important backdrop for accelerating tech innovation. Signapore Ship Association meeting Signapore Ship Association meeting Frode Halvorsen on stage during Trondheim Tech Port Ole Andreas Alsos from NTNU’s presenting the MIDAS project.
