"articleBody" : "At Nyhavna, Nyhavna Utvikling is making flexible office and workshop space available to ocean technology companies while the area continues to develop. Transittgata 10 is already home to several companies, with more on their way. Nyhavna is undergoing major development, but activity does not have to wait until new buildings are completed. At Transittgata 10, existing space is being used by companies working in ocean technology and automation, with several more companies moving in. Norse Navigation has been based in the building since before the summer, while CGO Automasjon moved in on 1 August. Ocean Access is planning to move into office space at the turn of the year. Zeabuz and Blueye Robotics also use parts of the workshop facilities for workshop activities and storage. “Transittgata 10 is an ideal fit for us at Norse Navigation. It gives us flexible office space in a central Trondheim location, right in the middle of a growing cluster of established and emerging maritime technology companies. We also really appreciate that existing buildings at Nyhavna are being made available while the long-term plans for the area take shape,” says Henrik Foss, CEO and founder of Norse Navigation. Henrik Foss, CEO and founder of Norse Navigation. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri “For us, the move was about becoming part of a technology community, not just finding a new office. At Transittgata 10, we are close to several of our customers, such as Oceantech Innovation and Zeabuz, and alongside other founders and companies working on the same challenges as we do. That makes it easy to build connections, share experiences and find new collaborations. Here, we have offices, meeting rooms and our own workshop under one roof, where we build machines and automation cabinets. The premises suit our size today while giving us room to grow within the same building. Being right by the sea is an advantage when much of what we deliver goes to the maritime sector – and the view certainly doesn't make the workday any worse. We believe this is an environment that will give us customers, expertise and inspiration for further growth,” says Christoffer Garmager Okkenhaug, CEO of CGO Automasjon. – Ocean technology companies are growing, and we see a strong demand for flexible space. Companies want to be able to move in at short notice and rent exactly the space they need. It is great that we can help meet this demand together with Nyhavna Utvikling, says Frode Halvorsen of Ocean Autonomy Cluster. Christoffer Garmager Okkenhaug, CEO of CGO Automasjon. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri Flexible space in a changing district Transittgata 10 is owned by Nyhavna Utvikling, which is developing large parts of the area for residential use in the longer term. Development will take time, and in the meantime, existing buildings can provide useful space for companies that do not require newly built premises. – We are going to develop large parts of Transittgata for residential use, but that will take time. This means there will be buildings with a somewhat uncertain lifespan, but which are still perfectly suitable for companies that do not have particularly high requirements for building standards, says Ragnar Eggen of Nyhavna Utvikling. For Nyhavna Utvikling, making use of the existing building stock is also about creating activity in the area ahead of further development. – We want to facilitate business activity and bring life to older buildings that otherwise would not have much use going forward. At the same time, we can offer flexible office space to companies that want to establish themselves at Nyhavna, says Eggen. Henrik Foss, Norse Navigation, Christoffer Garmager Okkenhaug, CGO Automasjon and Ragnar Eggen, Nyhavna Utvikling. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri Part of the ocean technology ecosystem at Nyhavna For Ocean Autonomy Cluster, access to suitable space is an important part of the infrastructure supporting a growing ocean technology ecosystem. Companies have different needs at different stages, from office space to workshops, storage and facilities for testing and development. Transittgata 10 demonstrates how existing buildings can help meet these needs while Nyhavna continues its transformation. With several ocean technology companies already based there and new companies on their way, Transittgata 10 is becoming part of an increasingly active business environment at Nyhavna.",

"articleBody" : "Trondheim is taking another step to reinforce its position as a leading technology city within ocean technology. Testination has now entered into a partnership with Nyhavna Utvikling through the company Dora 2 AS, aiming to improve access to testing and development infrastructure in the city. Testination is an initiative that connects companies with testing facilities and competence environments. It is part of the Norwegian Catapult programme for autonomy and control rooms, and is designed to make it easier to develop, test, and verify new ocean technologies. The collaboration is focused on the development of Nyhavna, an industrial and port area currently being transformed into a new urban district combining industry, technology, and urban development. From seabed to space The technologies and solutions that can be developed and tested span a wide range—from seabed and subsea systems and maritime technology to autonomous solutions, sensors, and control systems. These may also have applications in other demanding environments, including space-related and high-tech use cases. At the core of the collaboration are the facilities in and around Dora 2 at Nyhavna. The robust German bunker structures from World War II represent a unique infrastructure in a national context and will now be used even more extensively for technology testing and development—both in controlled and sheltered environments such as pools and docks, as well as in a harsh harbour basin and a deep fjord with varied weather conditions. Frode Halvorsen, Testination, Erik Erlien and Ragnar Eggen, Nyhavna Utvikling. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri Through its ownership in Dora 2 AS, Nyhavna Utvikling will play a central role in how the facilities are further developed and utilized by existing and new companies and research environments. – This partnership is about bringing together and strengthening the innovation ecosystem for ocean technology in Trondheim. By more closely linking infrastructure, real estate, and technological expertise, we are creating better conditions for innovation and value creation, says Erik Erlien, Managing Director of Nyhavna Utvikling AS. – Access to relevant testing facilities is often crucial for companies to succeed in development and scaling. This collaboration helps strengthen Trondheim as an attractive arena for ocean technology and solutions for demanding environments, says Frode Halvorsen, Head of Testination and Ocean Autonomy Cluster. The partners believe the collaboration will lead to increased activity, more development projects, and stronger international appeal for Trondheim as a technology hub. – The ambition is to make it easier for both established players and new companies to test and further develop solutions here in Trondheim, Halvorsen adds.",

"articleBody" : "Les saken på norsk “There are probably few places in the world with more ocean technology companies concentrated in such a small area,” said Frode Halvorsen, Cluster Manager at the Ocean Autonomy Cluster. He opened Monday’s After Sea event and welcomed more than 40 participants from the ocean technology, research and development communities in Trondheim. The workshop marked the beginning of a broad industry involvement process, aimed at creating Norway’s most future-oriented environment for ocean innovation. Its purpose was to collect input from the ocean industry so that the needs of different stakeholders can be addressed in the best possible way. Frode Halvorsen, manager of Ocean Autonomy Cluster and Testination. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri Projects under development – from mobility and environment to a student hub Yngvild Bakken Furunes, Project Coordinator at Fremtidens Industri, presented two initiatives that already contribute to activity and identity in the area. Frostabåten is a zero-emission mobility project that strengthens the connection between the region and Nyhavna, while Make Nyhavna Clean Again is an environmental initiative focusing on water monitoring, clean-up efforts and sustainability. Ragnar Eggen, Project Manager at Nyhavna Utvikling, then provided an update on ongoing and upcoming projects in the area, including the new student building “Naustet,” which will give student communities an academic and social meeting place in the heart of the Nyhavna development area. Ragnar Eggen, Nyhavna Utvikling. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri Engagement and valuable input Birgitte Strøm Kahrs, Planning Manager at Nyhavna Utvikling, opened the workshop, which was facilitated by Kristin Braut from Rodeo Architects. Braut presented the status and starting point for the development of the Bunkerkvartalet, explained the background for the work, and showcased examples and solutions from other cities. In addition to Braut, the team from Rodeo Architects includes Ida Cornelia Roos, Anna van der Zwaag and Ingrid Roalsø. “Input from the industry is essential to ensure that the needs of different stakeholders are met. It is both useful and necessary to talk together early in the planning process,” said Kristin Braut. Kristin Braut, Rodeo Arkitekter. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri What are the industry’s needs? A number of Ocean Autonomy Cluster member companies participated in the workshop, representing a wide variety of needs. Many actors depend on access to quays, floating docks and the sea for testing and developing maritime solutions, and today’s dock capacity is insufficient. There is also a need for cranes, facilities for launching and retrieving both large and small vessels, repair and maintenance facilities, onshore rigging areas for assembly, preparation and storage of equipment, as well as adequate access for vehicles on land.Birgitte Strøm Kahrs, Nyhavna Utvikling, Ingrid Roalsø and Kristin Braut, Rodeo Arkitekter. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri Window under water During the workshop and group discussions led by Rodeo Architects, participants also explored what facilities modern ocean tech companies require, how shared spaces can best stimulate collaboration and testing, and how premises can be adapted to companies in different stages of growth. Among the suggestions was the idea of an observation room with underwater windows to monitor underwater testing. Needs for workshops, testing facilities, flexible workspaces and good meeting arenas were recurring themes, and participants emphasized solutions that support both collaboration and individual operations. Ragnar Eggen, Nyhavna Utvikling og Kristin Braut, Rodeo Arkitekter. Foto: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri The harbor basin – a central test arena The harbor basin at Nyhavna is an important test arena for ocean technology companies, with high levels of activity every day. Several Ocean Autonomy Cluster member companies use the area for developing, testing and demonstrating new maritime solutions. This makes the harbor basin a valuable resource for innovation and collaboration, reinforcing the need for well-designed quays, floating docks, cranes, and facilities for launching and maintenance. Many highlighted the importance of maintaining — and not reducing — current capacity. Foto: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri Nyhavna – a technology engine and ocean innovation hub Nyhavna is emerging as one of Trondheim’s most important development areas, with ocean technology as a strategic focus. With its proximity to the sea, industry and leading research environments, the area has unique potential to become a national powerhouse for maritime and ocean-based innovation.Foto: Lars Bugge Aarset/Fremtidens Industri The After Sea event was organized in collaboration between Ocean Autonomy Cluster, Nyhavna Utvikling, Maritimt Forum Midt-Norge, FI Ocean Space Incubator and Testination, and marked the beginning of a broad partnership to shape the ocean innovation cluster of the future. Input from the workshop is now being systematized and incorporated into the further development of the Bunkerkvartalet concept. More engagement activities are planned in the coming months.
