The first step in the "Make Nyhavna Clean Again" initiative was taken this week, as Ocean Access deployed its first buoy outside HAVET in Trondheim. The buoy will gather real-time data from the harbor to support better and more precise water quality monitoring.
This initiative is a collaborative effort between technology companies and NTNU, Norway's leading university for science and technology. By combining sensors, data modelling, and a strong local partnership, the project aims to build a solid knowledge base about water conditions at Nyhavna.

"We’re not measuring E. coli – yet – but the buoy will collect key parameters that help us build accurate models of the water quality in the area," says Frode Halvorsen, Cluster Manager at Ocean Autonomy Cluster. "This is a classic example of how innovation and collaboration go hand in hand."
Ocean Access’ smart buoy is part of a long-term ambition to restore and revitalize the harbor area. The goal is to make data more accessible and relevant for planners, environmental researchers, and the community alike.

Nyhavna is currently undergoing major transformation, and projects like this aim to ensure that development is based on facts and real-time environmental insight.
