"articleBody" : "Les saken på norsk Clean Sea Solutions, a leading company in environmental technology and sustainable solutions for marinas, is proud to announce that they have won the Innovation Award at this year's Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marinas conference. This prestigious award is given to the most innovative solution that contributes to environmental protection and promotes the sustainable development of marinas. Among participants from around the world, Clean Sea Solutions was selected as one of the finalists to present, and their solutions were recognized as the most innovative for enabling cleaner oceans and smarter marinas. The international jury, comprised of experts in technology, environment, and the maritime industry, praised the company's efforts. Catharina Frostad, founder of Clean Sea Solutions, presented the company’s groundbreaking technology to the jury. Strong and essential solutions “Winning this award is an enormous recognition of the work we have put into developing innovative solutions that can contribute to cleaner oceans and more sustainable marinas,” says Frostad. “This award shows that our solutions are not only strong but also essential to addressing the environmental challenges the marina industry faces.” The Innovation Award underscores the importance of new technology in the pursuit of a more sustainable future, and Clean Sea Solutions has developed solutions that make it easier for marinas to operate in line with sustainability goals. Leading International Meeting Place Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marinas is a leading international meeting place for investors, entrepreneurs, marina developers, and architects, with the goal of promoting more environmentally friendly marinas through innovation and sustainable solutions. This year, the conference gathered over 250 participants, focusing on generating real results and strengthening efforts towards a greener maritime future. The conference brought together key players from across the marina industry, with a focus on how innovation can help build and operate marinas that take into account both the environment and future sustainable growth. Clean Sea Solutions’ solutions were highlighted as a central part of this future. It’s incredibly exciting to see young, promising companies from OAC quickly making a name for themselves abroad. This supports our claims that Norwegian ocean technology is still far ahead. And that's exactly where we need to ensure we stay, says cluster leader Frode Halvorsen of the Ocean Autonomy Cluster. Thank You to Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marinas Clean Sea Solutions also wishes to thank the organizers of Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marinas for an inspiring and educational conference. “It is encouraging to see how much focus this sector now has on sustainability, and we are proud to contribute to this important transition,” concludes Frostad. This is a triad of tools that few others have, and it's focused on ocean technology, which is something we in Trondheim should excel at,” says Ocean Autonomy Cluster leader, Frode Halvorsen. “Testination is also a test center at a higher level than what we usually have in terms of research infrastructure in Trondheim,” he adds. Frode Halvorsen, manager, Ocean Autonomy Cluster. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/FI - Fremtidens Industri Autonomy for the Future As a katapult node, Testination, in collaboration with the Ocean Autonomy Cluster, will be a key tool for companies wishing to develop and test autonomous solutions in the ocean space. This will provide both small and large companies with the opportunity to accelerate innovation, strengthen competitiveness, and contribute to the sustainable development of the ocean industries. “Autonomous technology in the ocean is a crucial part of the future industry. With our new role as a Katapult node, we will provide companies access to state-of-the-art testing facilities and industrial expertise,” says Frode Halvorsen. A National Boost for Ocean Autonomy Norwegian Katapult is already a well-established national program that supports innovation and sustainable development within Norwegian industry. Through collaboration with strong industrial environments, the new Katapult node in Trondheim will enhance efforts in digitalization and autonomy. This will ensure that Norwegian companies can test, verify, and commercialize new autonomous solutions faster and with lower risk. “We are proud to be part of this important initiative. It will give the ocean industries a significant boost and help Norway remain a leader in ocean autonomy,” says Frode Halvorsen. Siva Strengthens Test Infrastructure Siva – The Industrial Development Corporation of Norway, together with Innovation Norway, has selected the eight new nodes based on their ability to deliver strong industrial solutions. The new structure makes it easier for companies across Norway to access test infrastructure regardless of geography and supports faster transitions and increased innovation capacity. "articleBody" : "Les saken på norsk A milestone in maritime technology was marked today as PhD candidate Aleksey Gusev from the Shore Control Lab at Nyhavna, Trondheim, successfully demonstrated the remote operation of the autonomous ferry milliAmpere1. The project is linked to the Department of Design at NTNU, and the demonstration was carried out over Telia's groundbreaking 5G network. Ole Andreas Alsos, Associate Professor / Vice Dean for Innovation and Dissemination Department of Design. During the test, the ferry was remotely controlled from the control room at the Shore Control Lab. The two people on board, ready to take control if something went wrong, proved to be unnecessary. Gusev flawlessly controlled the autonomous ferry from shore, skillfully maneuvering it around other vessels in the area, taking a loop around the harbor basin at Nyhavna, and docking it safely again. The technological solution impressed with a stable HD-quality transmission at 60 frames per second, with an impressive low latency of well under 200 milliseconds, even though the data packets were routed through Oslo first. This test run demonstrates that remote vessel control over the 5G network is reliable, marking an important step in the development of autonomous ships for the future. “This is a major milestone for us,” stated Ole Andreas Alsos, head of the Shore Control Lab. “We have shown that the technology is mature and that we can operate remotely controlled vessels safely and efficiently over the 5G network. This could open up a range of new possibilities for maritime transport.” The demonstration of milliAmpere1 is an important contribution to the future of autonomous and sustainable solutions at sea, showcasing Trondheim as a leader in the development of smart transport systems. Erik Veitch - researcher, Faculty of Architecture and Design This has opened a door that was previously closed. Even though the ferry is autonomous, it is important for safety that a safety operator can take over control from a land-based control room, says Erik Veitch, researcher at Shore Control Lab. "articleBody" : "Les saken på norsk: Ocean Access vant årets etablererstipend Ocean Access was one of three emerging companies in Trøndelag to receive the Entrepreneurial Grant from the Adolf Øien Foundation. The Entrepreneurial Grant is awarded to Trondheim-based startup companies and innovation projects in their early stages. The winners are selected by the board of the Adolf Øien Foundation, in consultation with an independent expert jury, after tough competition with around thirty applicants. The grant was presented during the region's largest business event, Manifestation 2024, organized by the Trondheim Region Business Association. Andreas Mauritzen and Fredrik Lilleøkdal from Ocean Access received the grant from Gry Haug Binde, CEO of the Adolf Øien Foundation. The Entrepreneurial Grant is about much more than just money. Equally important is the recognition that comes with it, she says. Photo: Maren Terese Forsbakk/Lykt Monitoring is the common denominator These are entrepreneurs and companies that have taken significant risks and are in the phase often referred to as the 'Valley of Death'. I believe that those of us around them have one important task: to cheer them on! Remember, these are the top 3 out of 30 exceptionally talented people and companies who applied, representing some of the best minds and talents in this region, says Binde. Gry Haug Binde, Adolf Øiens Fond. Photo: Maren Terese Forsbakk/Lykt Monitoring is the common denominator for this year's winners. Ocean Access is not the first to offer remote monitoring at sea, but with their submersible buoy, they have developed a solution that works in harmony with the elements, says Gry Haug Binde. Exciting technology companies In addition to Ocean Access, two other exciting technology companies also received this year’s Entrepreneurial Grant. In-Motion Technologies has developed a tool for the early and precise detection of symptoms of cerebral palsy in newborns. Aimses has developed a smart sensor that can monitor the health of electric machines in everything from wind farms to cars and airplanes – detecting faults before they occur. Ocean Access is a member of both the Ocean Autonomy Cluster and FI Ocean Space Incubator. Winners of the Adolf Øien Entrepreneurial Grant 2024. Photo: Maren Terese Forsbakk/Lykt Adolf Øien’s Entrepreneurial Grant The Adolf Øien Foundation for Business Development provides capital through the Entrepreneurial Grant for entrepreneurs and innovative projects in Trondheim and the surrounding area. The Entrepreneurial Grant was established in 2009, and through our donations, we aim to support entrepreneurial ventures and innovative projects that have the potential to become tomorrow's growth companies. The requirement for recipients is that the business must be founded by individuals who have completed a master’s degree in economics and/or technology – primarily from NTNU – and that the business concept has the potential to create a ripple effect in the Trondheim region. The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals are prioritized in the allocations from the Adolf Øien Foundation for Business Development and will be considered in the application review process.",

"articleBody" : "Les saken på norsk Simen Flåtter Flo, a master's student in Product Development and Manufacturing at NTNU, spent the summer of 2024 as an intern at Skarv Technologies. After several years of various summer jobs, Simen sought a new challenge. He discovered Skarv Technologies, an innovative, relatively new company developing autonomous underwater drones in Trondheim. Despite there being no advertised positions, Simen took the initiative and emailed CEO Trygve Olav Fossum, which led to an interview and an agreement for a summer internship. Skarv Technologies is a technology provider specializing in the development and delivery of sensing solutions tailored for underwater applications. They build and deliver robotic platforms, positioning, autonomy, data analysis, and associated cloud services for better insights and decision From Design to Testing Throughout the summer, Simen was responsible for the design of an upcoming product, an opportunity that allowed him to leverage his background in materials technology and product development. He was given the freedom to be creative while adhering to specific requirements related to geometry, production methods, and materials. This experience was a perfect fit for Simen, providing him with valuable insight into how theoretical knowledge is applied in practice. In addition to design work, Simen participated in vessel testing and other varied tasks, giving him broad experience in the maritime technology sector. Simen Flåtter Flo is former leader of Propulse NTNU has now had an summer internship at Skarv Technologies. Photo: Lars Bugge Aarset/Ocean Autonomy Cluster Freedom and Trust: The Key to Success The team at Skarv placed great trust in Simen, giving him the freedom to structure his workday independently. This autonomy was crucial for Simen, as he was also heavily involved in the student organization Propulse NTNU, working on the rocket project Valemon. The ability to balance his passion for rocket development with his summer job at Skarv made the summer an unforgettable experience. Through this balance, Simen gained a deeper understanding of the maritime industry, particularly seabed exploration—a field he was previously unfamiliar with but now finds deeply fascinating. Test print of a prototype component in PLA, printed on a Prusa Original XL. The wood-like structure is support material that allows for large overhangs in the model. The Value of Summer Interns Skarv Technologies CEO Trygve Olav Fossum emphasizes the value of bringing in summer interns. Since the company’s founding in 2019, they have successfully recruited students from NTNU, especially in the fields of cybernetics, marine engineering, and electronic systems. Trygve highlights that summer interns bring unique skills and fresh perspectives that enhance the company's development processes. During the summer, the interns have contributed creative solutions to concrete challenges, and several of the ideas we’ve taken forward have come from their work, Trygve says. The fresh perspectives they offer give us new insights and opportunities to test ideas in practice. It also allows us to build relationships with potential future colleagues. For Simen Flåtter Flo, the summer at Skarv Technologies has been an invaluable experience, both professionally and personally. Through close collaboration with experienced engineers, he gained insight into a fascinating industry and contributed to innovation in maritime technology.",
