"articleBody" : "AutoAgri won the 2020 innovation pitching competition and NOK 50 000 reward at Trøndelagsmøtet, competing against five other startups from Trøndelag. AutoAgri are devoted to development and manufacturing of autonomous implement carriers. The vehicles are designed with agricultural use in mind, but only imagination limits possible applications. Visit their web page to learn more about the concept. From left: Vigdis Harsvik, Innovation Norway, Trøndelag, Jostein Sandvik and Eirik Hovstein, AutoAgri, Jon Håvard Solum, Grong sparebank and Håvard Belbo, T:lab. Photo: Trøndelag Fylkeskommune Norwegian article below. AutoAgri vant gründerpris på Trøndelagsmøtet AutoAgri vant årets innovasjonspris under pitchekonkurransen på Trøndelagsmøtet, i skarp konkurranse ned fem andre trønderske oppstartsbedrifter. Vinneren fikk 50.000 av Trøndelagsmøtet og Grong Sparebank. – Let’s make tractors small again!, sa medgründer Eirik Hovstein i Autoagri AS fra scenen.

"articleBody" : "Climate crisis may give rise to a new European industrial adventure. Serial entrepreneurs and industry experts join forces to build new emission free mobility solutions for the world’s fast growing cities. The world is increasingly urbanized and most cities are located in coastal areas or along waterways. This requires that new transport solutions must be cost-effective, emission-free and will have to use the waterways, as opposed to congested highways and expensive bridges and tunnells. NTNU is now spinning out a new company, Zeabuz, that will build mobility solutions on top of world-leading technology expertise. Former DNV GL top executive Bjørn K. Haugland and three NTNU professors with long industrial and entrepreneurial experience are part of the team. Illustration: Zeabuz Zeabus aims to provide simple, environmentally friendly and relatively cheap transport of people via the waterway, as opposed to relying on densely packed roads or building expensive bridges and tunnels. – Norway has a complete maritime cluster and together with NTNU’s world-leading expertise in digitalisation, automation and autonomy, we can create a new industrial adventure, says Haugland, CEO of «Skift Business Climate Leaders» and chairman of the new company to TU.no (article in Norwegian). Zeabuz will sell autonomous mobility services to both cities and settlements along the coast, and will ally with strong Norwegian and international partners in designing and building the ferries themselves. The Zeabuz ferries will be small, electric and on-demand. – Autonomy fits like a glove with electric ferries. This enables better control, optimal operation, safety and maintenance, says Asgeir J. Sørensen, director of NTNU’s research center on autonomous maritime operations, NTNU AMOS, in a press release. NTNU has been researching ship control and autonomy for many years, and the Norwegian industrial adventure concerning dynamic positioning of ships started at NTNU. Today, this has given rise to a multimillion dollar industry centered in Norway. The research on autonomy and mobility solutions, including the research project Autoferry and the autonomous ferry milliAmpère with Professor Egil Eide at the forefront, forms the basis for the new company.",

"articleBody" : "The Ocean Autonomy Cluster in Trøndelag is one of Innovation Norway’s new cluster projects, seeking to strenghten Norway’s global leadership in development and commercialization of autonomous technologies and systems in ocean space. Norway has a proud history of innovations and achievements at sea and has been a major player on the world’s oceans for more than 200 years. Today, Norway is the global center for innovation and development of autonomous ocean technologies and solutions. Cutting-edge research, innovative companies and a rapidly growing marked for autonomous solutions, all provide unique business opportunities for applications in the ocean space. The Ocean Autonomy Cluster seeks to utilize these opportunities through combining the experience from Norway’s maritime and offshore industry, developers, suppliers and award-winning R&D institutions. The main goal of the Ocean Autonomy Cluster is to strengthen Norway’s global leadership role in the development and commercialization of future autonomous ocean technologies and systems. Increasing efficiency There are currently 23 different participants in the Autonomy Cluster. Their main goal is to contribute to the development of more effective and safer autonomous ocean operations, that will decrease emissions and the carbon footprint of ocean-based industries. Head of the governing council for the Autonomy Cluster, Eirik Hovstein from Maritime Robotics, say that the cluster will be a natural representative for the participants and for all the companies working on autonomy in Trondheim, Norway’s capital of technology. – Together, we will present Trøndelag and Norway as a world leader on autonomy within the ocean space. Autonomous systems are systems that can operate entirely or partly independent. Autonomy is still a relatively new research area, and testing, verifying and commercializing of the technology is needed. New value-chains must be developed, and new laws and regulations are also needed. From the left: Cluster Advisor at Innovation Norway, Anders Andreassen, Director of NTNU Amos, Professor Asgeir J. Sørensen, COO of FI, Marianne Brøttem, CEO of FI, Bjørn Damhaug, Head of the governing council for the Ocean Autonomy Cluster, Eirik Hovstein, and Minister of Local Government and Modernisation, Monica Mæland. Photo: Tom Hansen/Innovation Norway – The entire value-chain will be included in the development of autonomous solutions. We want to simplify and improve access to testing infrastructure for industry and researchers. I hope that this will increase the number of spin-offs from the research institutions, and that more companies will be established around the Ocean Autonomy Cluster in Trondheim, Says Hovstein. Autonomy is still in its early stages of development. New laws and regulations will emerge, with testing, verification and commercialization of different technologies and systems becoming even more crucial. A new chapter The Norwegian Innovation Clusters program is meant to help the development of industry clusters in Norway, and to support collaboration between businesses and other organizations. You can read more about the Norwegian Innovation Clusters program here. NTNU Amos has been one of the key driving forces behind the cluster, and the Director of Amos, Professor Asgeir J. Sørensen, thinks the cluster could open a whole new chapter in ocean-based autonomy research. Professor Sørensen hopes that status as an Arena Cluster will help drive the project onwards, and that it will make it easier to gain additional financial support from the Norwegian Research Council and Innovation Norway. – For me this is part of the ambition to develop Trondheim and Trøndelag into a hub for advanced blue technology, not to mention the potential for creating knowledge-based jobs in the region. Sørensen claims that collaboration between industry, government and the universities is a recipe for success, and that knowledge transfer between the different organizations and institutions in such a cluster is key. – NTNU’s participation could potentially function similar to how the universities in the Boston area and Silicon Valley have been a cradle for industry clusters and where new knowledge and cutting-edge solutions are continuously being transferred from the universities to industry, says Sørensen. The Ocean Autonomy Cluster is managed by FI, an innovation company that also manages and is involved in several other business clusters. – Trøndelag is the world leader of development of autonomous technologies and systems in ocean space. The industry is showing a great interest in the world of autonomy, so there are several great business opportunities to explore, says CEO of FI, Bjørn Damhaug. – For us, it is very exciting to take part in this journey and to participate in a sustainable production of wealth from the ocean, says Damhaug.",

"articleBody" : "Researchers have worked on the idea of snake robots for more than 30 years, but the greatest breakthrough so far was done by key scientist at NTNU AMOS Professor Kristin Ytterstad Pettersen and her colleagues. In recognition of this work, Pettersen has been awarded the Bode Lecture Prize. Director of NTNU AMOS, Professor Asgeir J. Sørensen has known with Pettersen for many years, and they have worked together for the last fifteen. – Only candidates with international breakthroughs in the field are qualified for this prize. That Kristin gets it on account of the work she has done in an area where there is intense competition between the large nations is simply fantastic, says Sørensen. A robot that mimics a biological snake For several years the research team at NTNU has been working on developing an underwater robot that is flexible and slim enough to conduct complex operations in confined spaces, very much like a real sea snake. The result is a flexible snake robot with motorized joints that can change its form as needed, just like a real snake. Kristin Ytterstad Pettersen gave a lecture at The Big Challenge science festival in Trondheim this summer. Photo: Per Henning / NTNU – Because of this the robot is capable of conducting a wide spectrum of inspections and surveys under water in places where we have previously struggled to get access to. It is also capable of gripping and manipulating tools and objects, just like an operational underwater drone, says Professor Pettersen. Puts Norway on the map – This might be the most prestigious international scientific recognition one can receive within the field of Control Engineering – a large and important area within ICT. That Kristin and NTNU receives an award like this in a generic field is exceptional, and it really shows what a brilliant scientist she is, says Asgeir Sørensen at NTNU AMOS. Kristin Ytterstad Pettersen is also an entrepreneur, and, together with her research group, she has used her research results to establish the underwater robotics company Eelume. – This is also a great recognition to the Department of Engineering Cybernetics and to NTNU AMOS. It really puts Norway on the map, says head of department Morten Breivik at the Department of Engineering Cybernetics at NTNU. He also recognizes the importance of Sintef as a partner in the development of generic underwater robots over several years. In particular in connection with the early prototypes to be developed.
