Computas, a leading Norwegian IT consultancy firm, has officially joined the Ocean Autonomy Cluster (OAC), marking an exciting development for the region's technology and innovation ecosystem. With expertise in digital solutions, artificial intelligence, system development, cloud services, and IT consulting, Computas aims to bring its technological acumen to the forefront of maritime autonomy.
“Joining the Ocean Autonomy Cluster aligns perfectly with our vision to foster innovation and growth in the Trøndelag region,” says Marit Gartland, Regional Director for Trøndelag at Computas. “This network provides an excellent platform for collaboration among professionals and technologists who are committed to advancing regional development.”
Established in 1985 as a part of DNV to work on knowledge-based systems, Computas has grown into a trusted partner for both public and private sectors. Today, it boasts over 350 employee-owners across offices in Oslo, Trondheim, Copenhagen, Malmö, and Bucharest. The Trondheim office, established in 2022, has grown to a team of 18 by 2025.
Computas is poised to strengthen the cluster by hosting workshops and lectures, participating in knowledge-sharing events, and supporting joint projects that foster innovation and value creation. “We’re excited to take an active role in raising the cluster’s collective expertise while supporting startups and smaller companies within the network,” Gartland adds.
Through collaborations such as its partnership with Clean Sea Solutions, Computas has demonstrated its ability to apply cutting-edge technology to pressing global challenges. Clean Sea Vision, an AI-powered solution developed by Computas, helps detect and classify marine waste collected by autonomous devices. This groundbreaking tool not only highlights the scale of marine plastic pollution but also provides actionable insights for clients to measure progress and implement preventative measures.
Computas’ contribution to Clean Sea Solutions was recently featured on NRK’s Dagsrevyen, showcasing the real-world impact of its innovative solutions. “The opportunity to share success stories like this underscores the importance of our membership in the Ocean Autonomy Cluster,” Gartland explains. “By amplifying these achievements, we hope to inspire further collaboration and position the cluster as a leader both nationally and internationally.”
Beyond technical contributions, Computas Trondheim is committed to driving positive societal impacts in the local community. By supporting shared initiatives and contributing expertise, Computas aims to be a catalyst for sustainable growth and innovation. “We believe that the synergy between our technological expertise and the cluster’s vision can create meaningful, long-lasting results,” says Gartland.
As Computas joins the Ocean Autonomy Cluster, it brings a wealth of experience, a commitment to collaboration, and a vision for a more innovative and sustainable future. Together, they aim to shape the future of maritime autonomy and regional growth.
