**Akvaplan-niva brings extensive expertise in ocean monitoring, autonomous vehicles, sensor technology, oceanography, ecology and aquaculture to Ocean Autonomy Cluster.**

Based in Tromsø, Akvaplan-niva is a Norwegian research and consulting company working with the physical environment, biological diversity and ecological processes in marine and freshwater systems. The company combines research with research-based advisory services supporting innovation and environmentally friendly operations.

Akvaplan-niva sees Ocean Autonomy Cluster as an arena for developing new ideas and collaborative projects across research, industry and public management.

> *“Through the Ocean Autonomy Cluster, we hope to become involved in collaborative projects, expand our network, participate in events and develop new ideas,” says Department Director of Environment at Akvaplan-niva, Anita Evenset.*

The company can contribute research expertise across several disciplines, as well as infrastructure relevant to autonomous ocean technology. This includes autonomous vehicles, advanced sensor technology and marine research facilities at the research and innovation station, FISK, on Kvaløya near Tromsø.

## Connecting autonomy and ocean research

For the Ocean Autonomy Cluster, Akvaplan-niva strengthens the connection between autonomous technology and research on the marine environment. Ocean monitoring is particularly relevant, with autonomous vehicles and advanced sensors offering opportunities for collecting environmental data.

Akvaplan-niva is a subsidiary of NIVA, the Norwegian Institute for Water Research, and is also a founder and owner of Arctic Frontiers, an Arctic dialogue platform and an  the annual conference held in Tromsø.
